PERCEPTIONS OF ELECTORAL INTEGRITY

……………………………………………………

The Perceptions of Electoral Integrity (PEI) dataset by the Electoral Integrity Project (EIP) provides a comprehensive analysis of how well countries' electoral processes meet international standards of electoral integrity. Based on a survey that collects the views of election experts, the PEI dataset provides an overall score for each election, ranging from 0 to 100, as well as comparative rankings of countries based on these scores. In PEI 8.5, which is the most recent release, 497 elections in 169 countries that took place between July 1st, 2012 and December 31st, 2021 are evaluated. This data is used in the annual "Year in Election" reports.

In collaboration with the Carter Center, interns from Emory University are an integral part of putting together the PEI index. A special topics class allows them to explore topics around data collection methods, expert surveys, and electoral integrity in the real world. They also contribute invaluable aid in finding experts for our PEI surveys, and often write a case study based on the PEI Index that gets featured on our blog.

This partnership is made possible by the Carter Center-Emory University Democracy and Electoral Integrity Completion Fellow, a fellowship sponsored by the Carter Center that provides a year-long position for a graduate student at Emory University.
